African American women have played a pivotal
role in shaping American society. From slavery and throughout the 20th century they have
overcome adversity and met all the challenges that society has offered. They are the
architects behind the success of many of our great Black leaders and more often that not,
they have not been given the proper accolades for their achievements. Behind every great
Black man there are numerous great Black women in his life that he is grateful for. This
country would not be as it is today if not for the sacrifices and achievements of
African-American women.
