Malcolm X Elementary School

Rashan attends Malcolm X Elementary School in Chicago. Each day he has a class on a different African American subject
and each class is taught by a different instructor. Determine the class each instructor teaches and which day they teach.

1. Nancy teaches her class the day after the person that teaches the Art & Sculpture class.

2. A lady teaches the Invention & Science class the day before Miles teaches his class.

3. The Civil Rights History class is not taught on Thursday.

4. Cassandra teaches Literature which is not taught on Monday.

5. Sheila teaches the day before Kevin

Cassandra teaches Literature (4). Inventors & scientists is taught by a woman (2), so that teacher is either Sheila or Nancy. Inventors & scientists is taught the day before Mile’s class (2), and Sheila teaches the day before Kevin’s class (5), so Sheila doesn’t teach Inventors & Scientists; Nancy does. The Art & Sculpture class is the day before Nancy’s Inventors & Scientists class (1), so Miles who teaches the day after Nancy (2) doesn’t teach Art & Sculpture. Sheila teaches the day before Kevin (5), not the day before Nancy, so Sheila doesn’t teach Art & Sculpture; Kevin does, and Sheila teaches the day before him (5). So, four of the classes, in order, are: Sheila’s class, Kevin’s Art & Sculpture class, Nancy’s Inventors & Scientists class, and Miles’ class. By elimination, Cassandra’s class is on Monday or Friday. It isn’t Monday (4), so Cassandra teaches Poetry & Literature on Friday, and the four days previously mentioned are Monday thru Thursday. By elimination, Sheila’s Monday class and Miles’ Thursday class teach Politics and Civil Rights History (3), in some order. Since the Civil Rights History class isn’t on Thursday (3), Sheila teaches it on Monday; so by elimination, Miles teaches Politics on Thursday.

Monday                 Sheila                    Civil Rights History

Tuesday                 Kevin                    Art & Sculpture

Wednesday            Nancy                   Invention & Science

Thursday                Miles                    Politics

Friday                     Cassandra           `Literature
